External hard drive planned for Nintendo Wii, or so the latest rumours go

Could Nintendo be answering many fanboys’ prayers message board tantrums, and be developing an external hard drive?

If an employment advertisement posted by Nintendo of America is anything to go by, then yes, yes they are. The job noticed called for developers to design a “test plan for Wii’s USB devices”, once again stoking the fire of external hard drive rumours.

Sadly the Nintendo of Europe head honcho, Laurent Fischer, claimed…

Peekaboo Pole Dancing might be taking Carmen Electra to the Xbox 360, not the Wii

When we broke the news about Peekaboo Pole Dancing launching a Wii game, we mentioned that Carmen Electra was already a fan of the portable dance poles, however it seems Carmen and her ‘Electra Poles’ might actually be launching on the Xbox 360 instead.

Speaking to MTV, Simon Kay from Peekaboo revealed “the biggest issue with the whole thing is Nintendo’s approval, we’re not going to get Nintendo to approve a Carmen Electra-based Wii game, not in near future at least.” Owing to the Wii’s ‘family-friendly’ reputation, they’re being forced to look at alternatives, such as the Xbox 360, which “could be edgier” according to Kay…

PC DJ game AudioOdyssey uses the Wiimote to get the "party" "started"

wii-audio-odyssey-motion-control-gamejpg.jpg

AudioOdyssey has been designed by boffins at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Gambit Game Lab with the Wii controller in mind.

Players take control of – and I can only apologise on their behalf for this – a DJ called “Vinyl Scorcher” who attempts to keep the crowd “jumping”. Mr Scorcher keeps the crowd jumping thanks to you waving the Wiimote…

WiiPlayer – a hacked and streamlined unofficial iPlayer app for Wii

wiiplayer-wii-hacked-homebrew-iplayer copy.jpg

Some extremely clever man has been working away on improving the Wii’s iPlayer, creating his own solution to the rather clunky and slow official Wii implementation of the Beeb’s streaming telly service.

Moaning that the Wii’s slightly duff Opera browser simply hasn’t got the right screen resolution to handle the BBC’s default text and layout, the creator has simplified the design, bumped up the font size and generally “Apple-ised” the look and feel of iPlayer so it’s quicker to operate and easier to find your way around…

Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 all "hazardous" and laced with DEADLY TOXINS

The leaf-strokers and mushroom-worriers at Greenpeace have released another of their NAME AND SHAME press releases, this time focussing on the top three video game consoles.

Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 are all RAMMED with DEADLY CHEMICALS that are POISONOUS and BAD FOR YOU, according to the report, which points out that safe alternatives are available.

Xbox 360 seems to come off worse – it contains a “phthalate” (a chemical used to make plastics) called DiNP which is already banned from being used in toys for kids in the EU…

Ban this SICK FILTH: Wii Fit edition

wii_fit_box.jpg

When videogames hit tabloid headlines it is usually because they’re being blamed for a horrific stabbing and inspiring homicidal tantrums; so what could the widely applauded Wii Fit title on the incredibly family-friendly Nintendo Wii have done to earn this week’s withering attack from ‘experts’? It allegedly called a little girl ‘fat’. Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!

Anti-Port gamers, be warned! Paper Mario possibly ported to Nintendo DS in July!

paper-mario-game(2).jpg

This is exciting! Someone over at NeoGAF has claimed that Paper Mario is going to be either ported or remade for the DS in July.

It’s not entirely unbelievable either, with the N64 original selling superbly well on the Wii since it got added to the Virtual Console shelves (since release, it’s been in the US top 20 most popular downloads list), and even the remake, Super Paper Mario, for the Wii proving popular, especially in Japan.

The platform RPG-style game might…
