E3 is underway in Santa Monica, and there are hundreds of hot new games on show. So what better way to summarise the best ones than via the medium of Haiku. Don't be giving me your nit-picking about any missed…
E3: Nintendo gets shooty with the Wii Zapper
It’s certainly been an eventful E3 so far for Nintendo, having shown off its Wii Fit workout game and Wii Mario Kart – both of which come with custom peripherals in the shape of the Wii Balance Board and Wii Wheel. But the Big N didn’t stop there: also unveiled was the Wii Zapper, a gun peripheral that’s been rumoured for some time.
E3: Nintendo shows Wii Mario Kart… with online multiplayer!
Nintendo took its time bringing God’s Own Racing Game (sorry Gran Turismo fans) to Wii, but at E3 today, the company finally showed off Mario Kart Wii. It’s due out early next year, and will include proper online play – just like the last DS version.
E3: Nintendo Wii Fit promises calorie-busting fun
You’ve probably read all the stories about how you can get fit by playing Wii Sports. To be honest, you’re more likely to end up with a strained wrist from over-enthusiastic baseball swings. However, Nintendo has announced a Wii game that really will sort your health out. Its name: Wii Fit.

Have you played the last Madden NFL game on Wii? It’s pretty tough, especially if you’re flummoxed by the ins and outs of American Football. At least, that’s my excuse for the 51-point loss I suffered in my first game. On easy level.
At last! A proper Star Wars lightsabre game for Wii!
Look, I don’t care if the game’s rubbish, as long as I can swish my Wiimote around, making the proper lightsabre noise from its speaker. Oh, and I’d like to be able to kill Yoda, if that’s okay.
Wii gets WiiWare: finally some original downloadable games
For all its marvellous traits, Nintendo’s Wii console is lacking in one fairly important area: original downloadable games.
Xbox 360’s Live Arcade has loads, and PS3’s PlayStation Network is rolling out a number of original titles too. But Nintendo’s Virtual Console has stuck to its rigid policy of only selling old retro games, rather than new titles.
Tech Digest's Robot World Cup: Round Three
Since I started this World Cup, Japanese scientists have probably invented about 76 new bots even more deadly / cool / ridiculous than the ones featured here. Ah well. No late entries or byes are permitted, even if someone creates a British TennisBot capable of winning Wimbledon. Which is frankly unlikely.
